Two hospital workers were arrested by the police in connection with the reported theft of medicines worth at least P1 million from a public hospital in Tondo, Manila.
Dr. Evangeline Morales, director of Gat Andres Memorial Medical Center, reported the theft to the police after dicovering the loss of the medical kit and equipment for treatment of respiratory ailment last week. She said the alleged theft happened at the Pulmonary Room at the fourth floor of the hospital.
Moriones police station chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino immediately ordered an investigation, including the lifting of fingerprints at the hospital room. According to Espino, a driver of the Gat Andres Hospital identified as Joederick Patani came to him and showed a box of medical kit which he said dropped from the cart of garbage being pulled by two male hospital utility workers.
Follow-up investigation led to the arrest of Rogelio Leonsito, 31, and Alfredo Tibay Jr., 27, both utility workers of the Gat Andres Hospital. — Nestor Etolle
