Police arrested a first year college student for allegedly raping a Grade 6 pupil in Caloocan City Sunday afternoon.
Superintendent Reynaldo Orante, Northern Police District intelligence and investigation unit chief, said the 18-year-old suspect is a hotel and restaurant services student and a resident of Dagat-Dagatan in Caloocan.
The victim, 14, also of Dagat-Dagatan, is currently confined at the Philippine General Hospital as a result of the rape. She was supposed to graduate today from a public elementary school in Malabon City with honors.
Police Officer 2 Enrique Pangan said the suspect lured the girl to his house, where he allegedly raped her. The suspect denied raping the girl, and claimed that she is his girlfriend.
“I was even the one who brought her to the hospital,” the suspect said.
But according to Pangan, the suspect was only “trying to cover up his crime.” Police said they caught the suspect as he was about to escape. – Pete Laude
