A 35-year-old woman was killed when a garbage truck collided with a van in Ermita, Manila before dawn Sunday.
The victim, identified as Analyn Dizon, a resident of Kamias Road in Quezon City, died while being revived at the Manila Doctor’s Hospital. She sustained fatal head injuries.
Her companion, Robert Dulay, 36, of Bagong Tanyag in Taguig City, was reported to be in critical condition. He was driving a Mitsubishi L300 van (WMS-986) at the time of the accident.
According to a report by Senior Police Officer 1 German Sainz, of the Manila Police District’s District Traffic Enforcement unit, the van was about to cross Romualdez street at the corner of United Nations when it was hit by a rushing garbage truck (UUL-400) at around 3:10 a.m.
Sainz said the impact of the collision was so strong that Dizon, who was seated in the van’s front passenger seat, was thrown a few meters away from the vehicle.
The driver of the truck was identified as Junnie Delamide, 41, who is employed by Leonel Waste Management Corp.
Probers said they are preparing to charge Delamide with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injury and damage to property. – Edu Punay
