P10-M plastic products destroyed in Caloocan fire

A fire of still unknown origin broke out at a plastics factory warehouse before dawn yesterday in Caloocan City destroying some P10 million in plastic products.

Chief Inspector Juan Reyes, Caloocan City Bureau of Fire Protection chief, said that gutted was the warehouse of Asia Pacific Trading on L. Lupa Street in Maypajo.

The company is engaged in the manufacture of plastic hangers, water containers and other plastic products.

Reyes said that at about 3:05 a.m., the local BFP was informed of an ongoing fire at a plastics factory warehouse in Maypajo.

Reyes said Chinese-Filipino businessman Richard Sy owned the factory.

“Our four fire trucks were immediately dispatched to the area and they were augmented later by about 10 more coming from fire volunteers and from the neighboring cities,” Reyes said.

The quick response by firefighters prevented the blaze, which reached only second alarm, from spreading in the densely populated neighborhood.

“We were able to put out the blaze in less than an hour and prevented it from leaping to other buildings,” Reyes said. He said nobody was reported hurt in the incident but Sy put the fire damages to his firm at around P10 million. The local arson investigators were still trying to determine yesterday the cause of the blaze.

Reyes said that the Asia Pacific Trading incident was the first structural fire that occurred in Caloocan this fire prevention month but he appealed to residents to be always careful “for fire destroys not only property but also lives.”
