A 55-year-old mechanic was shot dead by at least six unidentified men Wednesday night in Malabon City, while a tricycle driver was also gunned down by two motorcycle-riding attackers earlier in the day in Caloocan City.
Auto mechanic Lazaro Gervacio, a resident of Barangay Tinejeros, Malabon City, died from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
He was on his motorcycle when he was waylaid by armed men on Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangay Acacia at around 7:15 p.m.
One of the gunmen fired more shots at Gervacio to make sure that he would not survive.
The suspects escaped toward Barangay Catmon by riding on a passing passenger jeepney.
Police said that it was the second time that the victim was attacked.
Last Nov. 23, unidentified men also ambushed Gervacio in the same location. He was hit twice in the back, but survived.
In Caloocan City, two men also shot dead tricycle driver Jimmy Rocillas, 38, at about 1:30 p.m. in Barangay 186.
The victim, a resident of Barangay 105 in Malaria, was with his friends playing cara y cruz – a gambling game – on San Lorenzo street when he was attacked. He died on the spot.
The suspects fled on their motorcycle toward Saint Joseph Avenue in Tala.
The police have yet to establish the motives behind the killings. – Pete Laude, Jerry Botial
