Drunk truck driver hits cop’s car

- Reinir Padua -

A drunk truck driver hit a car owned by a Quezon City police station commander Saturday night and tried to attack the lawman with a fan knife.

Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 3, decided not to press charges against Pablo Ramos, saying he was not hurt and his car only sustained scratches due to the collision.

“I just hope this would serve as a lesson to him never to drive under the influence of alcohol because clearly he does not act normally when he’s drunk,” Ratuita told The STAR in an interview.

According to Ratuita, he was driving his Nissan Patrol along Tandang Sora Avenue at around 8 p.m. when an Isuzu Elf (ZCB-811) driven by Ramos, coming from the opposite direction, hit his vehicle.

Ramos, who was being chased by traffic volunteers, nearly hit pedestrians who were crossing the street.

Due to the collision, Ramos was caught and nearly lynched by the traffic volunteers and the pedestrians he nearly sideswiped.

Ratuita tried to pacify the crowd but Ramos, thinking he was among the mob, pulled out a fan knife and attacked him.

“Obviously he did not know that I am police official. I was in civilian clothes,” Ratuita said, adding that Ramos was eventually pacified.
