Man jailed for stealing scrap metal in Malabon

-

A 29-year-old jobless man was jailed for allegedly stealing scrap metal Friday night in Malabon City.

Mayrick Silverio, a resident of Duhat Road, Barangay Potrero, Malabon City, was caught with some 15 kilos of scrap iron bars, police said.

PO2 Benjamin Sy Jr., Malabon City police investigator, said the suspect was arrested inside the Marcelo Compound junk shop on Gov. Pascual Avenue in Barangay Potrero.

At around 8 p.m., security guards Paciano Campo and Diones Roma were conducting a routine check of the compound premises when they chanced upon three men stealing pieces of iron bars. The suspects, upon seeing the guards, scampered to different directions but Silverio was immediately collared.

Alfredo Ersando, security chief of the compound, told the police that the suspects entered the compound by pounding a hole on its damaged concrete wall. The suspect was still detained yesterday at the Malabon City police detention cell while charges were being readied against him. – Pete Laude
