Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri crowned Friday Marie Antoinette Marcelo as Binibining Caloocan 2008.
The event, held at the Bonifacio Monument Circle in Monumento, was part of the city’s celebration of its 46th founding anniversary.
Echiverri said the beauty pageant was a big success because it attracted a huge crowd that showed support for their favorite candidates.
Marcelo, a Communication Arts graduate, was also crowned Mutya ng Caloocan Tourism (South) and won more than P100,000 in cash prizes.
The other winners were Vanessa Ubarde, Miss Ever Bilena, first runner-up; Diana May Tejero, second runner-up; Miss Talent Keziah Gallardo, Mutya ng Caloocan Tourism (North); and Miss Photogenic and Best in Swimsuit Krizia Sahyno; Best in Long Gown Jerika Pelaez, and Miss Friendship Julie Ann Gonzales.
The mayor said that the beauty pageant’s winners would be involved in various charitable projects for the city.
Marcelo would be the tourism ambassador of Caloocan and would also act as the model for the youth, which carries a considerable amount of responsibility, Echiverri said.
Barangay officials, led by newly elected national Liga ng mga Barangay president Ricojudge “RJ” Echiverri, were in complete attendance to show full support for their respective candidates.
