Lim ties up with Korean school for students to study English at CCM

- Evelyn Macairan -

The local government of Manila has tied up with a Korean school that would enable Korean students in the country to take a two to three week-crash course in English at the city-run City College of Manila (CCM).

In a statement, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim represented the CCM in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing with the Seokang University of Korea wherein its students would be allowed to take up English as their second language.

Apart from learning about the English language, Lim said they would also be exposed to Philippine history and culture.

The Seokang delegation was led by Dr. Jeong Soo Kim.

The 78-year-old mayor said, “We expect to accomplish two things at a time during the short-term visit and study period of the Korean students. They will be taught English as they acquaint themselves with the Philippine setting and culture.”

He also assured his Korean guests that the CCM faculty members are competent and willing to take on the task.

Those interested to join the program would have to secure a special study permit.

In return, Lim said they would also be sending instructors from CCM to Korea to teach English for six months to a year. Both parties are also open to the idea of holding mutual visits and study in each other’s campus.
