Proposed ordinance seeks to name hospital after Estrada’s late doctor

-

A proposed ordinance was filed in the San Juan City Council to rename the San Juan Medical Center to Dr. Lorenzo M. Hocson Memorial Hospital in honor of the late doctor of ousted  President Joseph Estrada.

San Juan Councilor Jannah Ejercito-Surla, who filed the proposed ordinance, said Hocson devoted 13 years of his life to serve the city’s residents.

“In those years, Hocson focused on the singular purpose of elevating the general health and well-being of the constituents of the City of San Juan,” Surla said.

Ordinance 16 has already been approved on first reading and has been referred to the City Council’s committee on health and laws for further deliberation.

Surla said Hocson, 55, who died from a heart attack last Feb. 1, was well loved by the people of San Juan.

“Hocson passionately involved himself towards the advancement of the city health projects and constantly made himself available for consultation to the marginalized,” Surla said.

Hocson, a nephew of Estrada, also took care of Estrada’s ailing 102-year-old mother, Doña Mary Ejercito.

He served as a director of San Juan Medical Center since its establishment in 1995 and had been attending to all the medical needs of the Estrada family for a long time.

Hocson was also a medical consultant at the Makati Medical Center.

Hocson earned his zoology and medical degrees from the Far Eastern University.

He is survived by his widow, Ma. Pilar Revilla, and children Erika Mariana, 18; Martin Lorenzo, 16; and Santiago Augusto, 13.   Jose Rodel Clapano
