3 suspected robbers killed in Taguig shootout

Three suspected robbers were killed in an encounter with a policeman who tried to arrest them in Taguig City early morning yesterday.

Taguig police chief Superintendent Alfred Sotto Corpus said the shootout occurred at about 2:45 a.m. along the MRT Road in Barangay Western Bicutan.

Police Officer 2 Roel Reyes of the Taguig Mobile Patrol Group was conducting a routine patrol when he and his colleagues spotted the three suspects on a black Suzuki TS 125cc motorcycle (TS-9110) speeding southbound along C-5 Road.

Reyes tried to flag down the suspects but instead of yielding, they allegedly sped away, turning right on MRT Road.

Upon reaching the Equator gas station, the suspects made a U-turn and one of them allegedly opened fire at the police patrol vehicle, the bullets hitting the car’s bumper and hood.

This prompted Reyes to engage the suspects in a firefight, after which two of the suspects lay dead on the pavement.

The third suspect, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was immediately rushed to the Taguig District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Taguig police investigation division head Chief Inspector Tito Oraya said two .38 caliber revolvers were recovered from the suspects. The suspects’ motorcycle was brought to the police station for verification of its registered owner.

Corpus said that prior to the incident, a robbery allegedly took place in Pinagsama Village along C5 Road, with the slain men fitting the description of the suspects.
