-

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is cracking the whip on all unregistered Asian utility vehicles and vans whose drivers have been illegally using two-way radios.

LTFRB Chairman Thompson Lantion issued the after he was instructed by Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza to coordinate with the National Telecommunications Commissions and in confiscating all two-way radios illegally attached to “colorum” or unregistered vehicles, most of which have no permits from the NTC.

Reports said drivers of colorum vehicles avoid apprehension by using the radios to alert each other on the presence of lawmen in certain areas.

Lantion advised all the drivers who have two-way radios to secure permits from the NTC to prevent apprehension and confiscation.

He clarified that drivers of vans and other private  vehicles may use two-way radios provided that they secure permits from the NTC.    – Perseus Echeminada
