Bus rams La Mesa dam wall; 23 hurt

-

At least 23 people were injured after a wayward bus careened off Quirino Highway and slammed into a concrete wall of the La Mesa Dam watershed wall early yesterday.

Ten of the victims were taken to the FEU Hospital in Quezon City while seven others, including bus driver Ramon Jamisola, were brought to the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Tala, Caloocan.

Officials said most of the victims were released after getting first aid treatment.

Senior Police Officer 1 Benjamin Bautista said the incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. He said the Cern Transit Service bus (TYK-488) driven by Jamisola developed mechanical trouble as it cruised along Quirino Highway.

Unable to control the bus, Jamisola slammed its left bumper into a concrete wall. The bus finally stopped but only after toppling a Meralco post.  – Jerry Botial
