The Philippine Port Authority (PPA) said it has reverted back to its old wharfage fee rates while officials are considering extending the duration of a memorandum order prescribing reduced wharfage dues.
The wharfage fees are set at P259.70 and P391.05 for the 20-foot and 40-foot cargo containers, respectively.
PPA general manager Oscar Sevilla said the PPA, in consultation with Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza, is still reviewing the possibility of resuming reduced wharfage dues despite the fact that the reduction would do little for exporters as the problem lies in other causes beyond the PPA’s mandate.
PPA Memorandum Order 26-2007 reduced wharfage dues from Aug. 31 to Dec. 31. Contrary to newspaper reports, the PPA said it has not extended the duration of this order.
