Manila, QC to go waterless for 28 hours

The Maynilad Water Services Inc. is urging its customers in several portions of Manila and Quezon City to stock water to last for at least a day, as a water service interruption is scheduled in areas of Manila and Quezon City starting tonight.

In an advisory posted on its website, Maynilad said some portions of Manila and Quezon City will have no water for 28 hours starting at 10 p.m. tonight until 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Maynilad said the water service interruption is due to the repair of the 1050-mm CIP mainline along R. Magsaysay near V.G. Cruz, Manila, that was accidentally damaged by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Maynilad also said that it would likewise give way for the removal of the bulkhead from the 2,000-mm LMAQ line along Sobriedad corner Batanes Streets in Manila.

According to the water firm, removal of the bulkhead would allow for the flushing and eventual energization of the newly interconnected LMAQ primary line—a major pipeline that will serve as the main conduit that will bring water from Maynilad’s La Mesa treatment plants all the way to the southern parts of the west concession.

The LMAQ Project is in line with the objective of Maynilad’s new owners, DMCI and Metro Pacific, to upgrade the water system and bring more water to areas in the south.

The affected areas in Manila are the whole of Sta. Mesa, including Bacood; a portion of Sampaloc bounded by Sobriedad, Nagtahan and Ramon Magsaysay; a portion of San Miguel area, including Malacañang; the whole of Pandacan; and a portion of Paco.

In Quezon City, the affected areas are the barangays of Don Manuel, Doña Aurora, San Isidro, Santol and Doña Imelda.

“To alleviate the water situation of affected residents, Maynilad will be deploying a total of 27 mobile water tankers,” Maynilad said. – Katherine Adraneda
