Ombudsman junks raps vs QC lawmaker

Quezon City Rep. Nanette Castelo Daza said yesterday she welcomes the decision of the Ombudsman to drop a complaint filed against her by a former employee more than a year ago.

The Office of the Ombudsman dropped the charges against Daza on Nov. 13 based on a report dated May 8 indicating that there was no evidence to support claims made by Richelle Vineles that the congresswoman allegedly had her employees at her pizza business draw their salary from Congress.

“With respect to the alleged participation of Daza in the alleged anomaly, the investigation yielded negative result,” the report said.

The report also stressed that Vineles had withdrawn his complaint on April 28, 2006, barely a month after he filed the case before the Ombudsman.

“From the start, I always said that the charges against me were baseless but I let the rule of law prevail. The Ombudsman’s decision is proof that the justice system still works in our country,” she said.
