Nanny kidnaps ward to win back lover

- Evelyn Macairan -

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents recently arrested a nanny who allegedly abducted her one-year-old ward, claiming the boy as her own son in a bid to win back her live-in partner.

Head Agent Romy Bon Huy Lim, of the NBI-Criminal Intelligence Division (CRID), said Nova Rance, 25, allegedly kidnapped Darriz Jakob Galler.

The boy’s parents filed a complaint before the CRID after discovering that Rance took the child from their home in Barangay Piñahan, Quezon City last Nov. 28 and reportedly stole P12,000 cash and P40,000 worth of jewelry, which she used to buy food and travel tickets.

Together with the boy, Rance went to her hometown in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.

The NBI-CRID coordinated with the NBI-Central Mindanao Regional Office (CEMRO) and they were able to apprehend Rance two days later. By the time she was arrested, Rance had spent the cash and retained only three necklaces, a bracelet and a ring.

Rance told reporters that she was planning to tell her live-in boyfriend, who had left her, that he was the father of the child. She has reportedly been employed at the Galler home for only five months.

Charges of kidnapping and qualified theft were filed against Rance before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office. – With Carmela Santos
