Ateneo opens medical school in Pasig

-

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) inaugurated yesterday a newly constructed building to house their newly opened Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in the Don Eugenio Lopez Sr. Medical Complex in Pasig City.

ADMU president Fr. Bienvenido Nebres said Manila Electric Co.’s donation of the land beside the Medical City Hospital on Ortigas Avenue and a partnership with the hospital provided the opportunity for ADMU to open its own medical school.

“Actually, many people have been asking us for a medical school,” Nebres told The Star.

Other donors, who helped put up funds for the construction of the building, were the First Pacific group of businessman and Philippine Long Distance Co. chief executive officer Manuel Pangilinan, who is also the chairman of the ADMU board of trustees; and the Ching and Chung families, who control the La Suerte Cigar and Cigarette Factory.

In ceremonies marking the inauguration and blessing of the new building and the formal opening of the school, ADMU’s first batch of 75 students – the Medicine Class of 2012 – were presented.   — Rainier Allan Ronda
