Taguig to construct transport terminal

-

To provide public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying the city’s streets with a legitimate parking area, the Taguig City government said it will soon engage in the construction of a transport terminal project along the East Service Road in Barangay Western Bicutan.

Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said the terminal will serve as a legal loading and unloading station for PUVs such as jeeps and tricycles. “With the construction of a dispatch station and transport terminal beside the hospital, heavy traffic on the East Service Road will also be minimized, if not eliminated,” Tiñga said.

The Taguig Public Transport Dispatch Station, a demonstration project of the city government in coordination with High Desert Inc. (HDI) Group, will be constructed on a lot along Champaca Street beside the Taguig District Hospital.

“I believe that this is a win-win project for Taguig and HDI. Apart from providing a terminal for PUVs and addressing the problem of increased traffic volume in this area of the city, it will also complement our efforts in the rehabilitation of the Taguig District Hospital. More importantly, smooth traffic in the area will give increased livelihood opportunities for our constituents,” Tiñga said.

Aside from the transport terminal, a three-meter wide covered passenger walkway will be constructed, and the East Service Road fronting the hospital will be subject to road widening.

Vice Mayor George Elias expressed his gratitude to HDI for their continued support to the city government. He said that private sector partners such as HDI are the “life blood” that provides impetus for the city’s growth and development.

City Administrator Wilfredo Villar said this transport terminal is first of the five projects that HDI has committed to construct in the city and paves the way for the “FutureTrans Intermodal Public Transport Terminal,” envisioned to become Metro Manila’s central terminal, and direct link to Southern Luzon.

Meanwhile, HDI Executive Director Brandon Chia said, “Let this project set the tone for our other businesses, be it large or small, foreign or local, to come to Taguig and make the necessary investments to help the people and to accelerate Taguig’s 2020 vision of becoming a premiere business district.”   – Rhodina Villanueva
