Illegal bus terminals in Alabang shut down

The Muntinlupa City government has ordered the closure of two illegal terminals operated by a number of bus companies in the Alabang viaduct area.

Mayor Aldrin San Pedro said Dela Rosa Transit, which converted a portion of the Alabang viaduct into a parking area; and the Alabang City Terminal, manned by Innovative Services, were issued notices to stop activities in the area.

San Pedro said that apart from illegally transforming zones not intended to serve as bus terminals, companies such as Innovative are using expired permits. More than eight bus lines are reportedly accommodated at the illegal terminals.

A team from the Business Permit and Licensing Office, headed by Rodolfo Oliquino, served the notices to the management of the bus companies around 6 a.m. Thursday. The BPLO team put up concrete barriers so the area could no longer be used as terminals.

San Pedro said the city government is waging an intensified campaign against illegal terminals.

He added that they are monitoring other bus lines, which may also be served notices if they are proven to be operating illegal terminals.

Two weeks ago, San Pedro ordered the closure of the St. Rose Bus Terminal, also in Alabang. The bus company reportedly used the sidewalk as its terminal.                            – Rhodina Villanueva
