COA cites Las Piñas for fiscal management

-

Las Piñas City is ranked seventh among the cities in the country that have maintained cash savings in the bank  and is without any liability, a 2006 Commission on Audit (COA) report noted.

Mayor Vergel Aguilar said the latest COA report only showed that he, along with the members of the city council and other city officials, have strictly adhered to their commitment to properly manage and disbursed the taxpayers’ money through sensible programs and projects.

Aguilar commended City Treasurer Rizal del Rosario for the wise handling of city funds, so that despite the city’s meager income and limited resources, the city government delivered basic services and met its obligations.

“This clearly shows that we can achieve our goal in providing the basic services to our people despite our limited resources and even implement other programs, only through proper fiscal management,” he said.

Las Piñas was also chosen as one of the cities with the “Most Outstanding Accounting Offices in the Philippines” by the COA and the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines. The recognition rites will be held on Oct. 17 in Mandaue City, Cebu.

The city has been implementing and strengthening various basic services such as free hospitalization through its green card program, the establishment of more daycare centers and school buildings, and the maintenance of roads and other infrastructure projects.  Rhodina Villanueva
