A female lawyer was found dead in a Pasig City hotel room Friday night.
Senior Police Officer 3 Roberto Garcia said Maria Jeanette Tecson, 40, single, and a resident of Lexington Garden Village, Pasig was discovered lifeless at 8:30 p.m.
Garcia said Tecson’s body was discovered by a roomboy who was about to clean the room.
“There was a deep laceration on her neck and left wrist,” the investigator said. Police have yet to determine if Tecson’s wounds were self- inflicted and whether her death is a suicide, murder or a homicide.
Police said they are trying to find out if someone had joined Tecson in the room.
Tecson was among the lawyers who filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to disqualify actor Fernando Poe Jr. from running in the 2004 presidential elections.
She claimed that Poe was born out of wedlock and thus should not be allowed to take the Filipino citizenship of his father.
Tecson said that while Poe’s birth certificate was dated 1939, his parents, Allan Poe and American mother Bessie Kelly, did not marry until 1940.
Tecson’s body was brought to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for autopsy.
