Another Wilcon Builders wall collapses

Another perimeter wall in the Wilcon Builders depot construction site in Parañaque collapsed yesterday morning.

No one was killed or seriously hurt in the incident, which took place at around 10 a.m. during a heavy downpour.

The STAR gathered that one worker, who was among those preparing to tear down the six-meter-high concrete fence, sustained minor scratches.

Nelson Lacambra, Parañaque Mayor Florencio Bernabe’s public information office chief, said the wall fell on another wall that separates the Wilcon Builders property from that occupied by a Total Gas gasoline station.

Parañaque City Police chief Superintendent Ronald Estilles said debris landed on the carwash area, causing damage to property.

City Engineer Reydivino Santos-Daval said a concerned citizen reported the incident, which prompted City Building official Elmor Vita and his men to rush to the site, located along Dr. A. Santos Avenue.

Lacambra said officials were in the middle of an investigation discussing last week’s incident when they received information that another wall had collapsed.

Quoting Vita, he said the concrete wall was already up for demolition since all existing fences were ordered torn down after last Thursday’s tragedy.

Three workers – identified as Lazaro Ramos, Balbino Ocampo, and Justino Abesamis – were killed while several others were seriously hurt when the first wall collapsed.

Lacambra said Vita was also ordered to demolish another wall, which is near a residential subdivision, as a precautionary measure.

City officials have yet to determine why walls at the construction site built by Wilcon Builders’ contractor, Red Stallion, have collapsed.

Last Friday, Vita and his men collected debris samples from the first incident to determine if substandard or weak materials were used to build the wall.
