Computers with unlicensed software seized in Parañaque

-

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has scored anew in its campaign against copyright violators with the confiscation of computers with unlicensed software from an importation firm in Parañaque City.

Agents of the NBI–Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD), led by the lawyer Elfren Meneses Jr., said over P300,000 worth of computers were seized from the office of the Manila International Freight Forwarders Inc. (MIFFI) at Oyster Plaza along Kabihasnan Road in Bgy. San Dionisio.

The raid was conducted last July 24 by virtue of a search warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 33 Judge Reynaldo Ros upon complaints made by Microsoft Corp., Adobe Systems Inc. and Symantec Corp.

Special Investigator Adjutor Larosa said in his operation report that they seized five sets of personal computers with unlicensed Adobe Software and a disc installer of Symantec Software.

Authorities are preparing to charge the owner of MIFFI with violating Republic Act 8293 or the copyright infringement law.  Edu Punay
