PACU celebrates anniversary

The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU), the oldest educational organization in the country, will celebrate its 75th founding anniversary this year.

Fabian Quitales, executive director of PACU, said that the highlight of their anniversary celebration will be their holding of a national conference with the theme “75 Years of Transformative Private Education for the Global Filipino,” to be held on Aug. 17, 2007 at the Century Park Hotel.

It will be attended by presidents and top administrators of PACU member institutions that include the University of Santo Tomas, San Beda College, St. Louis University, Jose Rizal University, University of Manila and several others.

Dr. Di Yerburry, a respected and internationally recognized educator and academician and former chancellor of Macquarie University, will keynote the conference.

PACU, will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a membership of 158 of the biggest private colleges and universities nationwide with around 1.7 million students and around 36,000 faculty and non-teaching employees.

The association was founded in 1932 by a group of Filipino educators led by Dr. Mariano V. de los Santos who were then considered the giants of Philippine education such as Jose Abad Santos, Conrado Benitez, Tomas Mapua, Nicanor Reyes Sr., Vicente Fabella and some others.  – Rainier Allan Ronda
