MIAA named ‘most disabled-friendly’ agency
The Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Inc. (PFRD) has named the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) as the most disabled-friendly government agency for giving disabled passengers top priority.
The award was given in celebration of the 29th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week as provided for under Administrative Order 35 dated
This year’s celebration, which is centered on the theme “Kapag May Access, May Success,” highlights the nation’s efforts towards disability prevention and the integration of persons with disabilities (PWDs) into the mainstream of society, as mandated under Republic Act 7277, otherwise known as Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.
The MIAA was chosen as the year’s awardee by a team composed of representatives from various government groups after it topped five minimum requirements for accessibility for PWDS: the installation of ramps at strategic areas, the easy passage of wheelchairs in washrooms and toilets, parking slots located at the nearest entrance, signages at comfort rooms and ramps, and non-skid flooring.
MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi received the award from PFRD president Rep. Ma. Amelia Villarosa last July 17 in Malacañang.
“We are thankful that the foundation has recognized our efforts in making MIAA as a disabled-friendly establishment. We certainly commit to provide more adequate measures to further promote the noteworthy objectives and thrusts of the aforestated programs,” Cusi said.
Aside from the MIAA, other winners are the Department of Environment and Natural Resources,
