Muntinlupa bans trikes from main road – again

-

The Muntinlupa City government is giving the national road back to motorists with the renewed implementation of an ordinance banning tricycles from the main road.

Mayor Aldrin San Pedro recently directed the Business Permits and Licensing Office-Tricycle Regulatory Unit (BPLO-TRU) to strictly enforce the ban on tricycles along the National Road to ease traffic, especially during rush hour.

The old National Highway runs from Barangay Alabang up to Tunasan and extends all the way to Laguna. Its four lanes are usually filled up due to heavy vehicular traffic. The situation is aggravated by the ongoing bridge rehabilitation work at the Alabang Interchange.

San Pedro said the implementation of the ordinance will help ease the flow of traffic by confining the tricycles to secondary roads.

“There are, however, exemptions to the ban, which include school service tricycles, and tricycles carrying patients in emergency situations,” he said.

However, San Pedro stressed that tricycles operated by city hall employees are not exempt from the ban. He called on BPLO-TRU officials to enforce the ordinance accordingly, without giving favors or preference to anyone.  – Rhodina Villanueva
