Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro has ordered the local police to strictly implement an ordinance that prohibits beerhouses and pubs near churches, schools, hospitals, police stations and residential areas in the city.
“In order to achieve our goal of making Muntinlupa a vice-free, peaceful, decent and progressive city, it is imperative and urgent that we strictly enforce the provisions of Kautusang Bayan 92-22 without exception,” San Pedro stated in Executive Order (EO) No. 6.
Kautusang Bayan 92-22 mandates that all beerhouses or disco joints in the city be built not less than 200 meters away from churches, schools, hospitals, police stations and residential areas.
San Pedro said that apparently, several establishments have managed to circumvent this law by operating as eateries in the day and as beer joints at night.
Aside from inconveniencing residents, he stated in his EO that these establishments have been identified as contributors to the “moral decay of many of our citizens, thereby impeding the realization of our goal.”
San Pedro also called for renewed efforts against illegal gambling activities such as sakla, tupada and video karera as well as crackdown on illegal drugs.
He directed the city’s Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) to immediately inspect and verify eateries that may be used as “fly-by-night” beerhouses.
San Pedro then ordered city policemen to coordinate with the BPLO officials to shut down the establishments.
He also reiterated his order to the police, the city’s Public Order and Safety Office and the Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse Task Force to intensify efforts against drug-related activities and to make sure “the so-called illegal laboratories and drug tiangges (flea markets)” will not be put up in Muntinlupa. – Rhodina Villanueva
