Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar ordered the immediate inspection of all business establishments in the city following last Wednesday’s warehouse accident that injured at least 10 employees of a garments firm.
He directed the inspection team of the City Engineer’s Office, headed by Rose Bantog, to act fast in ensuring that buildings in the city are safe for occupancy.
Aguilar said safety inspections of major business establishments, especially high-rise buildings, will be conducted to prevent similar incidents that may endanger lives.
He advised establishment owners to strictly comply with prescribed requirements to avoid penalties and revocation of licenses.
Last Wednesday, 10 people were injured after a portion of a warehouse building’s mezzanine floor owned by Formostar Garments collapsed, allegedly because of overloading. They were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.
Aguilar said owners of more than 6,000 business establishments in Las Piñas should conduct their own ocular inspection of the buildings they occupy to determine whether the structure conforms to the requirements of the National Building Code. – Michael Punongbayan
