Security guards killed in Parañaque rob try

Two security guards were killed yesterday while two others were injured after armed men staged an armored van robbery outside a shopping mall in Paranaque City .

Police identified the slain victims as John Ray Awakay and Elizard Castillo.

Two other security guards and a 12-year-old boy who were not immediately identified, were wounded during the shooting incident and they are being treated at the Olivares Hospital.

Parañaque police chief, Superintendent Ronald Estilles, said manhunt operations were launched against the suspects who fled on board several vehicles.

Estilles said some 18 to 20 armed men used a gray Toyota Corolla (TLK-451), a red Toyota Corolla (TKN-641), and another car to escape. The get-away vehicles were recovered in Las Piñas and Bacoor, Cavite.

He said one of the suspects has been identified as Bobby Baniver of Sampaloc Site, Parañaque City  who is wanted for murder and robbery.

“We are also trying to identify the others through our witnesses. The suspects are members of the Ampang Group,” he said.

Reports said the suspects tried to rob an armored van near the mall, but the security guards in the area engaged the suspects who aborted their robbery and escaped.

The Parañaque police is now coordinating with other police units to track down the suspects. – Michael Punongbayan
