Makati holds mass wedding

Forty four couples will tie the knot today during a mass wedding sponsored by the Makati City government as part of the celebration of the city’s 337th founding anniversary.

The free mass wedding would include couples living together out of wedlock.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and his wife, Elenita, will both serve as principal sponsors to the couples.

Binay said the free mass wedding, which is being sponsored by the city government twice a year, will be officiated by Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado.

The mass wedding dubbed this year as the “Kasalan sa Makati” will be supervised by the Museum and Cultural Affairs Office of the city government and will start at 4 p.m. at the Makati City Hall quadrangle.

The signing of the marriage certificates will be held an hour after the wedding ceremony.

Binay said the Kasalan sa Makati is a program open to all “live-in” couples who reside in Makati.

To avail of the program, the couples should have been living together for at least five years, with or without children, and there should be no legal impediments for each of them.

Other requirements include birth certificates, barangay and community tax certificates.

The grooms are required to wear Barong Tagalog while the brides are required to wear white dress with head crown.

They are also required to bring their  own wedding rings, while the bridal bouquets will be provided by the city government. – Jose Rodel Clapano
