A woman was killed while 13 others were injured when a dump truck collided with a jeepney Thursday night at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Valenzuela City.

Inspector Erwin de Guzman, Valenzuela City police Traffic Enforcement Unit chief, identified the fatality as Remedios Reyes, 45, a resident of Barrio Cabinuangan, Mabini town in Pangasinan.

At 9 p.m., Reyes was on board the jeepney, which was driven by Jonathan Carino from Pangasinan en route to Manila, when the vehicle’s rear tire blew out and caused the jeepney to spin around.

A dump truck, driven by Edwin Mangiliman, 34, a resident of Porac, Pampanga, was closely following the jeepney and rammed into the vehicle.

Reyes was killed on the spot, while 13 of her fellow passengers – Susana Carino, Nemesia Carino, Noel Carino, Arsenio Carino, Leonida Reyes, Romulo Balboa, Jerome Guzman, Federico Guzman, Joseph Reyes, Jocelyn Villanueva, Sherly Grace Carino, and Mariano Camba – and the driver were injured.

The victims were brought to the Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital in Caloocan City.

De Guzman said that all of the injured victims are now out of danger.
