Parañaque opens new high school

-
The Parañaque City government is set to open a new school that officials said will enable the city’s educational system to accommodate more students.

Mayor Florencio Bernabe said Sun Valley High School is 60 percent finished and is scheduled for completion by mid-2007.

"This new school building will go a long way to address our classroom shortage. We also hired new teachers who along with the existing instructors now provide quality education in all our schools," he said.

Bernabe said this brings to four the school buildings constructed under his administration.

In 2005 alone, the city government opened two new schools, which meant an additional 50 new classrooms and 91 new teachers for 4,518 students.

The four-story F. Serrano Elementary School in Sun Valley has 28 classrooms and can accommodate 2,500 students. There are 1,933 students currently enrolled in this school.

Don Arcadio Santos High School in Moonwalk has 17 classrooms with 1,914 enrollees.

In 2006, Rogelio Gatchalian Elementary School in Barangay Vitalez opened its doors to students and now has 671 enrollees.

Parañaque also has a new four-story hospital building.

A modern Parañaque City jail, regarded as the newest and most complete jail facility in the Philippines, was also completed in March this year.

Also in the pipeline is a new Parañaque police headquarters, which will be built at the coastal reclamation area and a new Parañaque Central Fire Station to be built in the center of the city along Sucat Road. – Rhodina Villanueva
