Businesswoman clarifies withdrawal from Pasay race

-
A businesswoman who pulled out from the mayoralty race in Pasay City admitted she did so because she failed to comply with some requirements, particularly her citizenship.

Segundina Dy said that if she had pursued her bid, the Comelec would have likely disqualified her on the issue of dual citizenship. She has yet to renounce her American citizenship.

Dy said that the decision was not easy for her because she did not want to disappoint her supporters. In submitting her declaration of withdrawal of certificate of candidacy submitted last Tuesday, Dy said she did so freely and voluntarily, without any promise of reward or favor, and with full knowledge of the consequences.

She said she did not know that another mayoralty bet, Pasay Rep. Connie Dy of the Kampi party, would seek the post since she had a remaining term in Congress.

Dy added that after tracing their roots, she found out that she has a blood relationship with Connie Dy’s husband and that she would not want to slug it out with her in the local polls.

She said she is willing to support the candidacy of Connie Dy and would continue to support her programs of government once elected into office.
