Taguig sets housing fair for homeless

-
The Taguig City government is set to hold a housing fair to benefit the city’s homeless residents.

Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said tomorrow’s event will bring together the country’s top real property developers and housing advocates.

Among the participating developers are Ayala Land Inc., DMCI Homes, G&W Architects, Xcell Property Ventures, Nuvo Land and Community Innovations, Inc. with support from furniture shop Funktionell.

DMCI Homes is building the Cypress Towers and Rosewood Pointe, two condominium buildings located near the C-5 Road. G&W Architects owns a string of property in the Taguig side of The Fort, which include Penhurst Parkplace, Kensington Place, Grand Hamptons Towers 1 & 2, the Sapphire Residences and Blue Sapphire.

Sister companies Xcell Property Ventures and Nuvo Land are developers of The Icon Residences and The Infinity, respectively, while Community Innovations Inc. boasts of the popular Serendra Inc. located just across Market! Market!.

"More than showcasing high-end property in the city, the foremost priority should be to provide shelter for homeless (Taguig) residents," Tiñga said. "The city government has linked up with housing advocates in building better and more affordable houses for the low-income market, as part of our ‘Family Townhomes’ project."

He added that, "the Family Townhomes is Taguig’s way of addressing the country’s squatting problem head-on." He also cited the urgency of bridging the widening gap between the rich and the poor in his city, where the country’s most expensive residential developments are located.

The Family Townhomes, the city government’s project in partnership with housing advocates Gawad Kalinga, Habitat for Humanity and the private sector, is also featured in the fair. Tiñga aims to build 30,000 of these low-cost housing units in 10 years. – Rhodina Villanueva
