Phone wire robbers fall

Barangay watchmen arrested before dawn yesterday three telephone cable robbers in Valenzuela City.
Felipe Cortez, chairman of barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City said that barangay tanods led by Bong Pamatian nabbed Rene Ibanez, 22, of barangay Bagbaguin, Caloocan City, and Darwin Barroga, 33, and Arthur Terrobias, 23, both of barangay Veinte Reales, Valenzuela City. Some 50 meters of telephone wires owned by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) were recovered from the supects.
Pamatian told the police that at around 4 a.m., they were informed that at least three men were seen hauling the stolen telephone wires on board a tricycle on Mabuhay street.
Pamatian with eight other barangay watchmen on board the barangay patrol vehicle, chased the tricycle and the suspects were later nabbed.
Cortez said that the telphones of at least 400 PLDT subscribers were disconnected after the robbers cut off the telephone wires. – Pete Laude
