Caloocan City Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri yesterday advised the public to avail of more affordable medicine at the newly opened Botika ng Bayan at the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center (PDMMMC).
According to Echiverri, the Botika ng Bayan, open 24 hours, is the local government’s answer to the ever-increasing cost of medicine.
He said the medicine sold at the Botika ng Bayan are up to 60 percent lower compared to private drugstores.
Echiverri said the strategic location of the Botika ng Bayan would certainly serve a greater number of residents. It would also operate as an attraction for people to see and be aware of the numerous services being offered at the PDMMMC.
Councilor Ricojudge "RJ" Echiverri, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, said the public should be made aware that generic drugs are just as effective as the branded ones but are made available at a much cheaper cost.
"RJ" Echiverri said the establishment of the Botika ng Bayan strengthens their earlier successful project the Botika ng Barangay.
Present during the unveiling were Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan of PITC, PDMMMC director Dr. Raquel So-Sayo, and city administrator Romeo Alcantara.
The Botika ng Bayan is approved by the Bureau of Food and Drugs and supported by the Department of Health.
