BF residents appeal to GMA

- Rhodina Villanueva -
Residents of BF Homes Subdivision in Parañaque City have appealed to President Arroyo to intervene to solve the water crisis that have plagued the area for the past 15 years.

In a petition letter sent to Malacañang, the Homeowners’ Welfare Advocacy Group led by its convenor Hernando Juatas said Maynilad Water Services Inc. had failed to provide regular water to over 50,000 residents.

Maynilad said it cannot proceed beyond that, and service the entire subdivision since the BF developer refused to give them the right of way.

"However, we have been informed lately that for reasons of right-of-way and other related issues, BF Homes Inc., the developer and its sister-company BF Waterworks Inc., continue to block and deny the residents of their inherent right to this basic need," Juatas said in the letter that was signed by representatives of more than 1,000 families.

"Madame President we are left with no other recourse but to seek your intervention for an immediate solution. We are prepared to discuss details with your official-designate," the petition read.

Juatas said the 50,000 BF Homes residents have remained waterless for the past 15 years.

"The serious situation and the unhealthy consequences were caused by the failure of the developer to provide water service," he added.

He said that throughout the years the residents have patiently waited for the solution to the water crisis but nothing happened.

Juatas complained that the residents were forced to buy water from private suppliers and the exorbitant price the water haulers charge.

Maynilad opened two weeks ago the gate valve of the main water pipe that will provide running water to residents of some villages in Barangays BF and San Antonio but the water supply reached only a few areas in the vast BF Subdivision.

Mayor Florencio Bernabe said water supply for BF Homes will only be provided to portions of BF Phase I that would include the commercial center up to the main gate of Aguirre Avenue.

Bernabe pledged to solve the problem which arose after the city’s deep wells dried up, the reason why only a few households are getting water on rationed basis.
