Operatives of the Las Piñas Police arrested a former police officer who is suspect in a recent carjacking in Pasig City.

Elmer Ramos was apprehended last Monday at around 5:30 p.m. inside a stolen taxicab parked along Talisayin street in Barangay Manuyo Dos.

Ramos was last assigned at the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Eastern Police District, according to Superintendent Josephus Angan, Las Piñas Police chief. Ramos was dismissed from service three years ago when he figured in a case of illegal possession of drugs.

In his report to Angan, Police Senior Insp. Gary Jaramillo Garen, said they received information that a stolen vehicle was spotted somewhere in Barangay Manuyo Dos, an area where stolen vehicles are reportedly kept.

Garen’s team found the taxi parked in front of an apartment. They waited for Ramos when he got in the vehicle. He was arrested when he failed to show documents for the taxi. He also handed them a fake ID.

Angan said the taxi was forcibly taken from its driver at about 11 a.m. Monday in Pasig. Ramos denied stealing the vehicle, claiming he was made to drive it by his accomplices. The police suspect that Ramos could be part of a car theft gang that includes former policemen who had been dismissed from the service.
