QC to run after erring market inspectors

Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has ordered disciplinary action for market inspectors whose negligence has contributed to the unsanitary processing of food in the city’s meat shops, which were recently identified as sources of food products that are not safe for public consumption.

Belmonte instructed Neil Lina, head of the Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD), to investigate the report and identify market inspectors who were found to be remiss in their duties.

He said erring market inspectors must be slapped with appropriate disciplinary action.

The mayor also directed the MDAD chief to reinforce his department with qualified personnel from the QC Public Department of Public Order and Safety who can serve as market inspectors.

The order was an offshoot of the raid recently conducted at a food processing plant in Balintawak where operatives of the city health and national meat inspection office found that they were also operating without permits from the city hall.

Belmonte urged the Quezon City police to file cases against 16 people arrested during the raid for endangering the health of the city residents. — Perseus Echeminada
