Fire razes Caloocan grocery

An estimated P1-million worth of property went up in smoke when a fire, reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out inside a mini-grocery store early morning yesterday in Caloocan City.

Fire Officer 2 Alex de los Trenos, radio operator of the Caloocan City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) office, said that at around 6 a.m., the fire started inside the Mini-Mart grocery store in Bagong Silang.

The blaze quickly spread inside the building. Firefighters declared the fire under control at around 7:27 a.m.

Despite joint efforts by firefighters from nearby fire stations, the conflagration persisted and completely gutted the store owned by businesswoman Evangeline Penne.

The blaze was contained within the store compound and declared out at around 9:15 a.m.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Arvin David said that faulty electrical wiring caused the blaze that destroyed some P1 million worth of property.
