Binondo killing puzzles police

- Nestor Etolle -
Police investigators are trying to determine the motive for the slaying of a Chinese-Filipino insurance agent in Manila last Tuesday due to the refusal of the victim’s family to cooperate in the investigation.

Joseph Dy, 48, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head yesterday morning while undergoing intensive care at the Metropolitan Medical Center.

Dy was shot at pointblank range by a still unidentified attacker along Soler Street in Manila’s Binondo district while walking on his way home past 7 p.m. last Tuesday.

The gunman escaped on board a Honda XRM motorcycle driven by another man towards the direction of Benavidez street in Binondo.

Witnesses told police the assassin was apparently waiting in ambush.

Investigators, however, could not establish any possible motive for the slaying, due to the refusal of the victim’s family to talk to policemen.

"No one wants to talk. They are all tightlipped when we question the members of the victim’s family," said officer-on-case SPO1 Paul Dennis Javier.

Investigators have questioned people at the scene to gather information that may help crack the case.
