A 36-year-old man was killed late Friday after he was hit by a car driven by a postgraduate student in Taguig City, police said yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Pedro Sententa, officer-on-case, said Andro Carganilla, a resident of Pinagsama Village, Taguig, was on a bicycle when he crossed C-5 Highway in Barangay Sto. Niño at around 7 p.m.
Postgraduate student Ireneo Bravo, 28, a resident of Barangay Western Bicutan, Parañaque City, was driving south when his Toyota Corolla struck Carganilla.
Carganilla was thrown off and he landed on the pavement, suffering a serious head injury and several bruises.
Bravo rushed Carganilla to the Taguig-Pateros Hospital but the latter died before they got there. Bravo later surrendered himself to the police.
It was not immediately clear how the accident happened and what factors led to it.
Stretching several kilometers between Parañaque and Pasig, C-5 is an accident-prone highway because of people crossing the wide high-speed road.
