Man shot dead for defending daughters boyfriend

A man was shot dead by drunken neighbors while trying to protect his daughters boyfriend early yesterday in Malabon.
Andrews Reyes Jr., 37, died from a gunshot would in the chest, PO2 Benjamin Sy Jr., officer-on-case, said.
Sy said Anthony Albano, 18, a high school student and a boyfriend of Reyes daughter, Marydy, 16, was on his way home at around 2:50 a.m. yesterday when he was accosted by five men, who were drunk.
Albano ran back inside his girlfriends house with the five men after him. Reyes went outside to see what the commotion was about and was shot by one of the men.
Police later arrested one of the suspects, Melvin Gaza, 34, who lives in the neighborhood. Police are looking for his companions, identified as Jojit Carbon, Christian Sy, Nognog and Budoy, both surnamed Gabino.
Reyes was taken to the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon but he died before reaching the hospital.
Gaza told police investigators that they mistook Albano for being a rival gang member and that Reyes was shot because they mistook him for Albano when he went out of the house. Jerry Botial
