800 runners join Global City run

At least 800 runners participated in the annual fun-run staged at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig yesterday morning.

The participants which included kids, middle-aged individuals and even senior citizens, joined the 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races that started at 6 a.m.

Jun Bisnar, head of the Commercial Operations of the Bonifacio Global City, said the race was relatively on flat terrain that started at the Bonifacio High Street, a new mall set to be inaugurated in January. The marathon passed through the commercial areas at Market! Market!, the international schools district, the MC Home Depot and then back to Bonifacio High Street.

"This (marathon) is an annual event and we are now on our second year. Compared to last year’s fun-run, there have been more participants now and that prizes are getting higher," Bisnar said.

He said the organizers envision the race to the mini version of the world-famous Boston and New York marathons that are full marathons with a distance of 42 kilometers.

"Apart from promoting health-consciousness and encouraging families to have fun while taking part in the race, our objective here is to encourage people to come and see what’s happening at the Bonifacio Global City. Right now we are developing our City Center where you will find the Bonifacio High Street which is basically, a pedestrian highway. When I say pedestrian highway, it is as wide as Ayala Avenue and almost a kilometer long (800 meters long) where people can walk from side to side. This is already a good form of exercise," Bisnar stressed.

He added that the Bonifacio High Street is a unique mall where shoppers can enjoy the open-air environment unlike ordinary malls that are airconditioned and enclosed in a building.

"Here we want the people to enjoy the environment, enjoy the sun with fresh air since we are promoting a different environment here in Global City where we have been actively planting trees. Thousands of trees have been planted since the start of our development," Bisnar said.

The fun-run is part of Bonifacio Global City’s "Passionfest" which celebrated the various interests of residents, and visitors.
