San Juan cops launch ‘Smart Bike’ patrol

-
The San Juan police have launched the "Smart Bike Patrol" to enhance their patrol capabilities and improve police service at the busy Greenhills Shopping Center.

The "smart bikes" are emission- and noise-free vehicles that run on highly efficient rechargeable batteries. They can accommodate a maximum load of 180 lbs. with a cruising speed of 25-30 kilometers per hour.

San Juan police chief Superintendent Rodelio Jocson said the bike can be used for 24 hours of patrolling without charging, covering up to 25 kilometers.

"The Smart Bike is the solution to the soaring cost of fuel. The riders can enjoy a virtually noiseless cruise while patrolling an area," Jocson said.

The Smart Bike Assistance and Reaction Patrol was established under the supervision of Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Luizo Ticman and San Juan Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito.

Jocson said they would initially activate two Smart Bike units at the Greenhills shopping center.

The Smart Bikes, which costs P26,000 each, were donated by Benedict Go, the vehicle’s distributor in the country.

"Susubukan muna naming yung dalawang bike at kung makita naming na effective saka namin dadagdagan yung bilang," Jocson said. Non Alquitran
