Caloocan honors senior citizens

-
Senior citizens taking part in the Elderly Week 2006 celebration have expressed their appreciation to Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri for giving them importance and attention.

During the start of activities last Monday, a ceremonial turnover of functions took place, wherein several senior citizens assumed the duties of local elective officials and city government department heads for aweek.

One of the participants, Milagros Villanueva, said they are very happy with the attention being extended to them by the mayor.

Villanueva, who assumed the ceremonial post as chief of the city’s Public Information Office last Wednesday, said they appreciated the gesture that gave them the rare opportunity to render ceremonial duties.

She also thanked the city’s Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA) for implementing the project.

Echiverri said the celebration is being initiated to honor the senior citizens of the city and to express the city government’s appreciation for the valuable contributions of the elderly to the development of Caloocan.

"It is also very important to honor the senior citizens of the city as they have also been very instrumental in the development and progress of what we now see as progressive and reformed Caloocan," Echiverri said.
