Cops nab car thief fleeing with stolen vehicle

-
Members of the Northern Police District (NPD) intelligence unit arrested a suspected member of a gang of car thieves while fleeing with a stolen tricycle in Caloocan City on Saturday.

Superintendent Jimili Macaraeg, NPD-District Intelligence and Investigation Division (DIID) chief, identified the suspect as Larry Barliso, 24, a resident of Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan City.

Police recovered from the suspect a Kawasaki motorcycle with sidecar, with license plate UN-6237, reportedly owned by Ruben Manansala.

According to the tricycle’s driver Rhem Fajardo, he parked the vehicle on Florencia St. at 12th Avenue in Caloocan City to buy spare parts at an adjacent motorcycle parts store at around 3:30 p.m.

As Fajardo was about to return to his tricycle, two men boarded his tricycle and drove off towards Dagat-Dagatan. Fajardo boarded another tricycle and ran after the suspects.

Upon reaching the corner of Tanigue St. and Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, Fajardo sought the assistance of two NPD cops — PO1 Gilbert Pineda and one PO1 Bustillos, who were on police visibility patrol in the area.

Sensing that the police were chasing them, the two car thieves jumped off the tricycle, but Barliso was cornered after a brief chase.

Macaraeg said that Barliso is a member of a notorious syndicate operating the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava) area and the neighboring province of Bulacan.

The NPD-DIID operatives have been coordinating with the Bulacan police for the possible arrest of Barliso’s cohort who was reportedly hiding in Bulacan.
