Jobless Caloocan residents complete vocational courses

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri led a graduation ceremony for at least 430 jobless residents who availed the various technical and vocational courses offered by the local government to prepare them for employment.

The mayor said that the city government, through its Labor and Industrial Relations Office-Caloocan City Manpower Training Center (LIRO-CCMTC) conducted the training in coordination with the Liga ng mga Barangay, headed by Councilor RJ Echiverri.

The 243 graduates were awarded their corresponding certificates of training at the Caloocan City High School gymnasium on 10th Avenue while the 187 others received their certificates in a simple ceremony at the multi-purpose covered court on Phase-I in Bagong Silang.

In Caloocan City proper, 87 took the data encoding course, 24 in computer technician, 41 in automotive, 19 in basic electronics, 17 in practical electricity, 16 in refrigeration and air-conditioning, 22 in cosmetology, 12 in sewing craft, and 37 in welding.

In Caloocan North, 28 completed the course in data encoding, 20 in computer technician, 17 in automotive, 19 basic electronics, 15 in practical electricity, 17 in refrigeration and air-conditioning, 22 in cosmetology, 12 in sewing craft, and 37 in welding course.

The mayor said that the graduates would be required to take skills examination at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Those who hurdle the exam would be assisted by the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in seeking jobs in various establishments of the city.

The younger Echiverri assured those who want to avail of the program that he will continue coordinating with the local government for the holding of future training sessions to equip the unemployed sector in the city with necessary skills and know-how. — Pete Laude
