Makati’s ‘Oplan Bulag’ nets 674 motorists

The Makati Traffic Enforcement Unit (MTEU) apprehended a total of 674 motorists as a result of an operation against vehicles with defective headlights.

MTEU chief Senior Inspector Estela Lomat said the violators were rounded up in the city’s major thoroughfares from January to July.

"Oplan Bulag" is a special program of the MTEU, which requires motorists plying Makati roads to use headlights at night.

The program encourages both public and private motorists to turn on their lights so that pedestrians and other motorists could see them.

First-time violators were fined P150 while second-time offenders were meted a P300 fine. Lomat warned habitual offenders to comply with the ordinance as they will be penalized twice the amount of their last violation.

Previously, Binay directed the MTEU, the Makati Police Department’s Mobile Police Unit and traffic enforcers from the Department of Public Safety to strictly implement "Oplan Bulag."
